Yes, it was hard work. I viewed an image today for Malew where the page was headed "Christenings 1717" All of the entries were brief, the date - the child's first name - and the father's name - that was it, no mention of 'mother'. As hard as that work was, the page was written in the most beautiful copperplate handwriting imaginable. There's a lesson for us all there somewhere.
