the Manx DNA site requires a direct line on the male side - any daughters in your line break the transfer of the genetic markers on the Y chromosome (only carried by males) which does suffer certain random errors that are passed down the generations - females are the source of another unique marker mitochondrial DNA but this suffers a very low error rate thus making it much less useful for genealogy
