I just discovered an uncle joined the Royal Irish Rifles pre WW1. His details are as follows
Alexander Miller
Born Douglas, 1st October 1890,
Died: 18 September 1909 (found drowned on the shore, Derbyhaven Isle of Man -18 years old)
The coroners report states Alexander was a soldier RIR , army service number 9284. It doesn't mention which battalion.
Did recruitment for the Irish regiments take place on the Isle of Man ?
