Kinsale was normally the home of the Manx fleet for Mackerel fishing (earlier in season than herring and as Kinsale too far to return to Island with catch usually sold to larger boats who could convey it quickly to larger markets - this addition to Manx fishing really only developed post 1850 as larger boats needed - On Island the caught herring was preserved by following day when caught by inshore fishermen at night - thus I have some doubts about the story being authentic
