John Caley's of Peel & Lezayre

June 1, 2015
Greetings from New Hampshire, USA.
I have traced my Caley family tree using US and IOM census records and can’t seem to trace back maybe more than one generation prior to information based on the IOM 1841 Census. I feel that I’m just guessing as to what John Caley my ancestor is. My emigrant ancestor was Hugh Caley b. 1835 (stone mason) youngest son of John Caley b. 1803 and Ann Gill b. 1795, married Lezayre 1823. 1841 census shows John and Ann living at Milltown with 5 children. The 1851 IOM census has John living at Milltown w/2 children and shows him as being born in Peel. The 1861 census shows John living in Glenauldin, (wife Ann having passed away) and living with daughter Ann, and again shows John being born in Peel Town. German Parish records with birth dates that line up with my John Caley would have his parents being John Caley b. 1803 to parents John Caley b. 1779 (bap. German Parish) and Ann Cowin b. 1782 (bap. Braddan Parish). All I can do is grasp at dates at this point. Is there any way to know if I’m following the correct John Caley?
Has anyone ever figured out the Caley family lines of Peel and Lezayre in the 18th and early 19th century? Thanks for any help you could provide,
Kathy Caley Soucie
