95% or so Manx married by licence (ie without going thro the usual English system of banns - Manx linceces were cheap and just certified that the couple were of age + free to marry - they were I think given to the officiating minister at the wedding - they were not kept (the parish reg was the official record) and would not give parents names unless on party was under age
