Looney Family Lands in Maughold Parish

The last couple of days I spent time looking at old maps in an attempt to locate the lands that are mentioned in old Maughold Parish documents that refer to lands owned by various Looney family members. In order to figure out the GPS Coordinates for those locations on old maps, I also looked at maps on google. If you would like to see these locations as they appear today, copy and paste these coordinates directly into Google Maps. If you want to see the area around that location, switch to Google Maps, Satellite Images and also use the "Street View" to look around at ground level. You can read street and other signs that show up in this view. There are also some great views around Maughold Church and Cemetery. Street view actually lets you go all the way around to the back of the cemetery looking west across Maughold Parish Church to the Mountains. Great views and beautiful country.

Crowcreen (John Looney & Margaret Kelvy home)
54.280730 -4.350351

Ballagilley (John Looney and Margaret Kelvy acquired and sold to Thomas Looney and he passed it down several generations as headstones in the Church Cemetery attest.)
(This location is also claimed [in error] by some American Looney descendants as their place of origin. The Looney family didn't acquire this land until the 1750s, long after Robert Looney was settled in America.)

Location of Hibernia Inn (John Looney and Rachel Redhead)
54.293262 -4.368715
In street view, looking west, scan to the left and you will see two rock structures, painted white, at the entrance with a sign "The Hibernian".

Dreemskerry (John Looney the Weaver)
54.292053 -4.336930

Bwoaillee Losht (William Looney)
54.283214 -4.334714

Thallo Queen a "Farm" (mentioned in Looney wills. Didn't realize it was a piece of land until I saw the name on a map.)
54.265062 -4.370318

Port e Vullen (Where John Looney died at age 66)
54.307993 -4.352433

On a side note, the Callow family sold more than one piece of land to the Looney family. William Callow, abt 1665, was converted to a Quaker which caused quite a stir and got him and his family put in prison and him exiled to England for a few years. In the end he returned to Maughold Parish and was buried in a Cemetery designated for Quaker burials. An interesting read and I have wondered if some of our Looney family on the IOM may have also associated closely with the Quakers. This might explain why some of them are missing from the "official" Church Christening Records. We also know that Robert Looney left the Isle of Man (most likely Malew Parish) before 1724 and in the first record of him in America he is closely associated with the Quakers, i.e., "Friends".
It seems that there were some 60-70 Quakers buried in this cemetery. No headstones or memorials with their names.
