the earlier films are quite clear (whether readable depends on your knowledge/experience of early script) tho many wills are badly damaged - the readability IMO decreases in mid 17th C - land records exist from c.1511 and become useful c. 1600 for those paying Lords rent (maybe 2/3rds of landholders) Lib mon exists from about same period but seems to contain less genealogical info - an untapped resource (and unindexed) are the court records of the same period
