Hello, Philip Allen,
The Christians of the Flatt are my line of Christians. Robert Oates Christian would have been my great, great grandfather. His grandson, John Longford Meller Christian was my great grandfather who emigrated from the Isle of Man to Canada where he lived when his father, Thomas Phillip Christian died. These family names were carried on to my grandfather, John Longford Lee Crellen Christian, and my father, George Longford Meller Christian. I was the first-born of George, but since I was female, I got none of these names! I am thinking (ha ha) of adding some of these names to mine….
It appears that I would be interested in Robert Edward Christian (1817-1891) because Robert Edward Christian’s name appears (at the end) in a Petition by Jane Sayle Crellin to administer the estate of Robert Oates Christian, her father, dated 3 Mar 1868. Her brothers and sister are also part of the petition. At the end of this petition it says “Now, know all men by these presents that we, the said John Chrystal and Robert Edward Christian hereby bind and obliges ourselves, jointly and severally, and our Heirs, Executors, and Administrators, firmly by these presents, as pledges for the said Edward Crellen that he shall well and truly administer the … the Personal Estate and effects of said deceased blah blah blah. Chrystal’s and JEChristian’s signatures are at the end of the petition. Edward Crellen died, Jane Sayle (Christian) Crellen, his wife, petitioned for control of her father’s (Robert Oates Christian) estate. It appears, now that I read about Robert Edward Christian again that he may be an agent/representative of the petition, and it is perhaps farfetched to think that he may be related also given what you said about not being able to see any relationship between these two families. Your thoughts? Oh – thank you for the historical and burial information for Robert Oates and Thomas Phillip – I will add this info to my tree, for sure.
