I have for several years wanted to solve a mystery of land ownership in Kirk Michael but have put off looking into it because even though I've tried to learn as much as I could about land records I still felt I would find them incomprehensible, wouldn't have enough time on the Island and didn't feel confident I would know how to go about it anyway. Well, last week I was able to spend about 4 and a half hours in the Museum library, spread over 3 days, and decided this was the time. I started with Wood's Atlas index and map, thought I'd found a likely property but was then promptly stuck. Luckily for me I then met NG Crowe, of this Board who gave me enormously useful information and guidance, and with this and a generous amount of assistance and attention from the very helpful 'Alan' on the desk at the Library, I now have the information I've hoped for for all these years. It's even better, because I found more than I was looking for, as well as the start of another project!
So thank you, Nigel and Alan. That made all the difference. It's so nice to come across people who will generously help you out of a pit, just like that.
