Kathren Fletcher’s parents were Robert Fletcher, Ballafletcher, Braddan (d 1613) and Elizabeth Calcott, of the Nunnery. Robert Fletcher’s parents were Henry Fletcher of Cockermouth, Cumberland, and Anne.
I have a dossier about the Fletchers supplied by Nigel Crowe. Much of what he sent me came from Sidney M Graveston. If you would like me to make a copy of relevant parts, please get in touch with me at p j allen at btinternet dot com (modified in the usual way). Graveston tells us that Henry Fletcher was a prosperous “chapman”. He witnessed a deed from the 3rd year of the reign of Edward VI (1549-50), and died on 15th October 1576 leaving an estate of £20,000. He sheltered Mary Queen of Scots after the battle of Langside.
The grandmother of Fletcher Christian, Bounty mutineer, was a Fletcher from the same part of Cumberland. Although her connection to these Fletchers has not been established, there is almost certain to be one.
Patricia, you have not told us how you know that Rev. Thomas Allen was born in 1583. Most birth dates on the Isle of Man in the 16th century are impossible to discover. I’m sure that many readers would be interested to know how you discovered Thomas’s birth date, especially if the record includes his parents’ names, or at least his father’s.
