Early CORKILL Ballagorry Mooar, Maughold

In Averil's thread below about Corkill of Ballajora, I wrote that I was claiming the William Corkill in this will as possibly being the William recorded as father of John of Ballagorry Mooar, Maughold:
www.iomfhs.im/lawsons/LawsonBMD/twill/1676_011.html

Will CORKILL buried Maughold Feb 22 1676/77.

I had previously put forward the possibility in this posting:
www.isle-of-man.com/genealogy/messageboard/index.pl/md/read/id/554683

Constance and William Radcliffe who wrote about the farming families in their book A History of Kirk Maughold said that in Ballagorry Mooar a succession of John and William Corkills were entered as landowners. John and William Corkill were entered for half the property in 1643, and in 1703 John alone was entered.
This John Corkill 1667?-1747 [will] married Jane KERRUISH 1674-1752 [will] from the family who had previously owned the other half of Ballagorry Mooar.

In the above William Corkill will he mentions his son John (his heir) and his daughter Elizabeth Corkill. His wife was alive.

Thanks to Eric Gelling for spotting Elizabeth Corkill's will, and to Averil for having transcribed this, we can take it a step further to make William's will a probability for this family, rather than a possibility.

Elizabeth CORKILL, Spinster, was buried in Maughold on Feb 18 1711/12, and her decree states that she died on the 17th, intestate. The Court decreed “her only Brother John Corkill Sole Admr. of all her goods moveable & imoveable whatsoever, who being absent, his Wife Jane Corkill is sworn in Court in form of Law……”
And:
“Jane Kerrush als Christian mother of the above Defunct, departed this Life about the 9th
of April last, intestate, whereupon the Church has decreed the above John Corkill Sole Admr. of all her
Goods moveable & immoveable whatsoever : In whose behalf, his wife Jane Corkill above sd. is sworn in
form of Law…..”.

[Averil, someone has headed this will transcript “Elizabeth Corkill als Kerrush” but she was not als Kerruish – has been confused with her mother.]

Her mother Jane, widow of William Corkill, has confusing surnames. I cannot find any Maughold records to support “CHRISTIAN” as her maiden name or “KERRUISH/KERRUSH” as a remarriage.

Her daughter’s decree started with Isabel Corkill (Isabel crossed out and replaced with Elizabeth), which makes me wonder whether the scribe of the joint decrees was confused, and that this burial was the mother’s one: Isabel KERRISH als CORKILL Oct 30 1712.
The burial he referred to was: Jane KERRISH als CHRISTIAN Apr 9 1712, but was he confusing “Jane” with the “Isabel” he wrote first?

Her husband William Corkill died in 1676/77, so a remarriage would need to be between that date and 1712.
These are possibilities, looking for Jane or Isabel marrying Kerruish or Christian:
Only: Robert Kerrish / Isable Corkill 24 Aug 1682.
But if she was Jane Christian als Kerruish, rather than Jane Kerrush als Christian, there is:
William Christian / Jane Kerrish 22 Oct 1681.
Neither marriage said she was a widow. Pre-1700 it was usual to use a woman’s maiden name in wills, often without her married name.
On balance I think she was probably Jane or Isabel KERRUISH, and if Jane she married William CHRISTIAN as a widow. I think this because of the connection between the Corkills of Ballagorry Mooar and the Kerruish family who owned half the property and were the original owners there – and one of whom was the wife of John Corkill 1667-1747, son of William Corkill d.1676/77.

Happy to be corrected.
