Hello Sue.
Back on August 6th, you sent me an e-mail documenting a Peter Corkill, son of William Corkill (d. 1700 Braddan) and Margaret Corkill als Corlett (d. 1705 Braddan), who married Joney Quirk, moved to Maughold, and died in there in 1741.
As you may remember, I have been doing research on another one of the William Corkill/Margaret Corlett children named William Corkill. Based on my prior post today, you can read that I believe this son William married twice: first to Margaret Lewney who died in Braddan 1710, and second to Jane Crane who died in Braddan in 1736. The first union produced a son William born 1710, and the second union produced two sons Peter born 1713 and John born 1716.
I believe that the Peter Corkill born in 1713 may have followed the path of his Uncle Peter to Maughold. I have noted a lone marriage in Lonan between a Peter Corkill and Margaret Christian (see Manx CD which says “6 Nov 1736 CORKHILL Peter XTIAN Margt mx maughold.”) I then searched for children born to a Peter Corkill and a Margaret, and I came up with four in Maughold: Samuel (bpt. 28 February 1738), Mary (bpt. 31 January 1741), Peter (bpt. 25 August 1745) and Wm Corkill (bpt. 9 March 1747).
A Maughold will for a Peter Corkill in 1767 on Manx CD states, “1767-2 A 61 CORKILL Peter d 20 jan; son samuel (eldest), peter (loom), Wm (not yet 24); dau Mary; gdau Margt corkil; wife margt als Christian.”
So, we may have another Peter Corkill of the Braddan clan (one generation below your Peter Corkill) moving to Maughold.
