Thank you everybody for your responses. Some very cool information that I did not have about the Clark's that did stay on the IOM.

I know I've seen the one census item above that seems to confirm he was not on the IOM in 1841, confirming that he did leave at a fairly young age.

I have looked at the passenger lists in family history, but alas what I get is a ton of "James Clark"s, with little help as to which is mine. If only they had tracked the arriving from as " Isle of Man" instead of "England" or "Great Britain"! Might make my life easier! I'll go back there and use the best guess approach!

I'd sure love to know where he was those years before arriving in Oregon, but this may be one of those dad ends.
