Re: Ann Corliss Cain
In Response To: Ann Corliss Cain ()

I don't want to start another argument - however I have looked at all the original documents now held in Manx Museum - the two Caine familes are given with explicit references to the original docs(copies of which may be purchased from Manx Museum tho their charges are now quite high - it is planned to make them available digitally but not it seems for some years).

Corliss is not a Manx name and looks to me a misreading of Corlett - in early hands 't's were often left uncrossed and 'e' look like 'i' but without the dot which can 'wander' quite far from the letter as you didn't want to raise a quill pen off the paper

My pages are:
Caines of Knockan - www.manxnotebook.com/famhist/families/acaine.htm
and
Caines of Ballacurleod (Curleod is early form of Corlett) -
