Thanks for these points. I’ll just comment on one.
5. I share your frustration when looking at information on Ancestry sites, as a guest. Not being a member with my own site myself, I don’t know how easy it is to cite a source, and therefore how far one can fairly criticise others for not doing so. Where the information comes from a census, immigration record, or other such official document, the source is usually clear enough, but it is where some unlikely-seeming fact comes from another member that one really wants to know. Unfortunately, wrong relationships get around, copied by one researcher from another. It would be good to be able to trace back through named researchers: Jim Hill got it from Tom Forrest, and Tom Forrest’s site tells us that he got it from Joan Heath, etc.
