Not sure where you live or your exact needs for research. But I am an annual subscriber to both FMP.co.uk as well as Ancestry (world). I have found both to be different but also great in what the other does not produce. FMP is the best for all English data, Ancestry great for the world (I have many that have travelled between England, Canada, USA, Australia, NZ, Italy and find the public tree sites fanastic in making contact with others. I do not upload my own data to either sites as I have my own web site that I prefer to control, but for information (yes lot of corrections need to be done and advise each site) but overall I love both.
I live in Australia and do not have access to a library or a genealogical society in which to do searches from very easily. to me, I think this is personal, I have been a subscriber to both since when they first started out, and will continue to do so as long as I can afford to do so.
