The area of old houses no longer exists . There is a multi storey car park called Shaw's Brow down a slope from Athol Street to Barrack Street .It is assumed to have been married quarters for the Military.
The area was sometimes referred to as "Irish Town" . Info. from Stuart
Slack's book "Streets of Douglas --Old & New " The oldest house in Douglas survives in that area as a restaurant. It is just a few yards from
the rear of the TOWN HALL.
