Obituary of Philip
!OBITUARY: John Boose: Philip Cain was born on the Isle of Man Aug 31,
1844, and departed this life at his home in Castleton Oct 10,1914. He
was one of a family of nine(ten)children, five of whom have passed on
before. One brother, Thomas, who lived in this vicinity a long time,
passed away not quite a year ago. The sisters in the Isle of Man survive
him. When quite a young man he came to America and in 1895 he
returned to his native country, where he was married to the woman of
his choice, Elizabeth Ann Bridson, on March 9, 1895. He then returned at
once to this country and lived in this vicinity ever since. One child was
born to this union, but lived only a short time. He was not seriously ill
until the last few days. His sister in law, Mrs Thomas Cain and her
children assisted in every way possible in taking care of him. Mr Cain
leaves 3 cousins in Saratoga, Mrs Richard Kelley and Mrs E. J. Culton of
Peoria, and Thomas Cain of Saratoga.
The funeral services were held on Oct 12 from the M. P. Church in
Castleton. The pallbearers were selected from among his former
neighbors and were as follows: Charles Salisbury, Ed Balensiefen, Henry
Birck, W. H. Davidson, John Mahler and Alfred Hall. Undertaker Marsh of
Bradford had charge. It is to be regretted that his wife was unable to
attend the service. Relatives from a distance were Mrs E. J. Culton and
Richard Kelley and family of Peoria. He was laid away beside his brother
Thomas in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
Elizabeth Bridson was ch 25 Jul 1856 Braddan d/o Robert Bridson & Jane Corlett She died 14 Oct 1940 in Illinois.
