Donna- thanks for the info - it's the inscription that sent me in the search of The States but I haven't been able to find a great deal and despite a number of searches over the past few years only recently found the entry for William Cain entering the USA on the 4th Feb 1895 on the Ellis Island website.

I'm now trying to ascertain that the above William is W K Cain and where he went to from NY - the search as ever continues,
