Manners, a Writer to The Signet (the title of a senior solicitor in Scotland) died in Braddan in June 1856. He was married to a distant cousin of mine, Barbara Fullarton, who was a descendent of the Laird of Fullarton.

I suspect that he went to the Island to undertake legal work but am not certain of his activities.

Barbara died in 1861 also in Braddan but I have not found any children although they may have remained in Scotland.

Can anyone tell me there purpose in going to the Island which appears to be after the 1841 census in Scotland.
