I apologize for this late notification re the death of Mildred Costain, however I had filed it away in my "Miscellaneous - for future reference" file and then forgot about it. This lady is no relation to me, however, she emigrated to Canada on the same ship as my mother in 1910. My mother was born in Douglas, and Mildred in Port Erin; their friendship started onboard ship at the young ages of 2 & 5 years and was continued after both families took up residence in Vancouver. As the obituary indicates Mildred became a school teacher and was, eventually, my 2nd grade teacher at Begbie Annex school which was across the street from our home. When I began researching my family history in 1995 I quite by accident came upon an article on the web written by Mildred's nephew. I contacted this gentleman and he very kindly gave me Mildred's Vancouver telephone number. I did place the call and Mildred answered, however I was unable to have a conversation with her as I believe she was rather suspicious of this strange lady talking about an event that occured some 85 years previously! Mildred was about 90 years old when I placed the phone call and I have regretted not being able to reminisce with her about her friendship with my mother. Perhaps someone on this board will be connected to Mildred's family and interested in the following.
