Lois,
Thank you for finding the 1850 census for Robert and Rosanna- I hadn't been able to locate it.
As far as the 1860 census, the one I had found was for John and Mary living in Ridge, OH (Wyandot County):
John Brown, 45 England Mary Brown 40, NY, Mary A Brown 15, Maria Brown, 9, Lucinda Brown 8 (all NY), Elisabeth, 5, Rosa, 1 (both born OH) I am doubtful of the NY birthplace as the census is very faded and the NY could easily be a same as mark below John's England. This also fits the story my grandmother always told of Mary Ann coming from England alone after her husband had settled and bringing her four (at the time) children with her. I think that is why I believed this to be the correct census.
I'm not sure what to think about George Brown other than it appears as if his son also a John married Isabella Lord. The only Lord-Brown connection I had known about was with Charles and Rosa and my grandmother was pretty certain about this as her mother (their daughter) was the one giving her information. There also were Lord-Brown reunions for years for the connected families up until the 1960's. But as my grandmother wrote to me once "they are all gone now".
Also of note: its is very difficult to get a record of birth or death before 1867 as they weren't required to keep them until then and after 1867 there were kept at the County Probate Courthouse and most are not online.
I think this is the next path I am going to take and follow the birth certificates backwards.
Thanks,
Jennifer
