My gr grandfather James Alfred Hannay's war record shows he was a private in The Cheshire Regiment. I found that around the time he enlisted, the 1st Manx (Service) Company joined and became 'A' Company in the Cheshire Regiment 2nd Battalion. Could I assume he was a member of the Manx Company? He suffered malaria and was hospitalised at Salonika, Just interested in the history of the 1st Manx Company if anyone knows about them.
I think after his bout of Malaria he was transferred to the 3rd Battalion (Reserve) and ended the war at West Hartlepool.
