My mother was put into Ballacoan house, she used to say it was Princess Alice Orphanage. She was just 4yrs old, and lived at the home from 1904 to 1916. She was returned to. birmingham when she was 16yrs old. She told me so many stories of her time there. Her name was
Olive Green, her best friend was Hettie Hall. In 1948 when I was 12 years old, we went to the Isle of Man on a family holiday, and it was her dream come true to see the splendid building, it was not a children's home any more, I believe it was. A club house of some sort, and we were able to see inside Ballacloan. My daughter forwarded the web page that she has found while surfing the net. (she is 56 and lives in Hawaii )
I am 76 and have lived in Queensland Australia for the last 40 yrs with our two other daughters, they all remember the stories that their Nanny
Told them about her life in Ballacloan I.O.M. and this is how the eldest daughter in Hawaii came to notice it all on your Web page.
Isn't it a small world in this day of time, Would I be able to get copies of the 3 post cards you have, It would be lovely to show how it was all those years ago to my 6 grand daughters. Regards from Australia to you and yours....Maureen. Cooper
