Hi,
I am seeking any information about a BANKS family/couple in Maghell in 1923 or slightly earlier.
My great uncle Richard Nightingale BANKS named his wife, albeit without an initial, and her address as Maghell, Ramsey, IOM on a Canadian Immigration Form 30A in 1923 in answer to the question "Nearest Relative in country from which you came".
I have no idea about her first name and have not found any marriage in UK marriage indexes with his middle name. Richard was born 1885 in Chorlton-upon-Medlock, Lancashire so how he came to be in the IOM i havent a clue! (If his Form 30A declaration is true!!) Or whether he married on the island. He was in Reading War Hospital about 1918/19.
Are there any sources where i might be able to trace her or them both on the island about this time?
What kind of place was Maghell in those days? how many people may have lived there?
Sorry i have so little to go on, but any help/advice/suggestions will be welcome either on their name or local history! Are there any Directories?
