Barry, Here is the content of my previous emails. I resent them using a different email address, but If you don't get them:

Hello Barry,

It’s great to hear from you. The Kaighin family you describe is one of only a handful that I still don’t know very much about. I was in touch with a Liam Kaighin in the Isle of Man a couple of years ago, and he provided me with some scant information on his branch and that is all I have so far to go on. I have attached the couple of emails between Liam and me. Si here’s what I know:

Liam has his lineage as follows:

Liam Luke Kaighin (he also had a brother Benjamin who may have died of cancer)
Liam Richard Kaighin – Lynette Tracy (unknown surname)
Ronald Richard Kaighin – Esther Marie (unknown surname). Ronald’s three brothers Jeff, Derrick E., and Errol D. all moved to Australia.
Edward H. Kaighin – Edna Kay
Richard Kaighin – Alice (unknown surname)

Since he is my only source, I have to go on the assumption that he is correct. At the time, his grandfather was still alive and he may have received this information from his grandfather, and if so, the fact that Richard and Alice were his grandparents may be reliable. However, I have not come across any record linking any Richard Kaighin with an Alice, and for that matter, there being a son named Edward H. Kaighin of this union.

As you’ll read in the attached emails (once we get in touch, I'll forward you those emails), there were only two Richard Kaighins alive during the time in question. One was from a well documented family from Birkenhead. This Richard Corkhill Kaighin became a school teacher and found is way up to Scotland where he died in the June quarter of 1924. He taught in a primary school in the town of Collessie.

The other Richard Kaighin was born in Jurby, IOM, and died at age 22. There is no record of him marrying.

So the track you want to take is the Richard who died in Scotland. If you can confirm that he married an Alice, then I can take that line back several generations further, but I’m afraid you’ll probably have to find this information in Scottish databases, which I’ve found hard to come by, although it’s been a couple of years since I did any serious genealogy work, so there may be more available now.

Also, have you been in touch with the three brothers in Australia or their families? I know nothing of them, other than Errol was a writer and a professor, and some of his work can be found online.

Notes regarding Richard Corkhill Kaighin: Unmarried in 1881 census, living at 143 Chester St., Birkenhead, Cheshire, England with brothers John R. Kaighin, Philip H Kaighin, and William H Kaighin, and grandmother Margaret Corkhill (widow), and Aunt Eleanor and Uncle Thomas Kaighin (unmarried) // Occupation: Pupil Teacher (1881); Teacher (1891) // Census Records: www.kaighin.com/familyhistory/references/census/pages/family/14550.htm //

Kind Regards,
