Thanks Mary M. I had just this moment googled that. In fact it was a name revived by the Puritans. The parents of Caroline Adelaide Young, married to Thomas John Hampton, were both born in Kent. So back to the drawing board with the search for an arrivals date for Thomas John. I have ascertained two things - that he did not arrive into NSW either as an assisted or unassisted immigrant - thus leaving the idea of a crew member who changed his mind.
