William Curphey's (b. Malew) father was William Curphey Sr. (farmer, Ballacharrey, Malew) b. 5 Mar 1776 or 9? to Thomas Curphey(Curghy) b. abt. 1740 and Anne McDonald who were married in Rushen 31 May 1763. William Sr. married Elizabeth Shimmin, (b. 17 Mar. 1782 Rushen) on 3 Dec 1803 in Rushen.
1841 Census puts William SR as a widower, age 62, at Ballacharrey, Malew, living w/son **JOHN 19 (b. 22 Apr. 1822, Isabella 16 (b. 1825) and Eleanor Cingle (single, housekeeper), age 55.
1851 Census puts Wm. Sr. farming 82 acres at Ballacharrey (age 71 and widower). Also living there, daughter Jane 38 (b. 8 Dec 1811 Maughold) and William Kelley (Kelly) son-in-law, 35; grandchildren Eleanor Kelley 8, Jane Kelly 4, Ellen Kelly 19, and Eleanor Cringle, house serv. did. 66. His death I believe is 15 Apr. 1863 (age 84).
**Wm. Curphey Sr's son John m. Margaret Morrison - had no children. Supposedly, he gave a donation of 30 pounds to the Barregarrow Chapel. In his will dated May 21, 1800 he left goods to WILLIAM JR. (Ann Cannell's husband - Ann was not 21 when she married) AND their children: JAMES, b. 1847 and John, and Thomas and just to complicate matters Ficks or Vicks are involved. Some of the farms they lived on were Ballakilley Clue, Malew, Cammel Moar, Ballamodha, Malew.
Walter James Cannell (banker in Peel & PSM) b. (date unknown to me) son of Hugh and Mary Corrin (marr date?) was a cousin to Charles Curphey, Wm. Curphey Jr.'s son. W. J. Cannell was living w/Thomas Cannell in Cumberland Sq. Port St. Mary and so was Charles Curphey. This might be the Cannell connection?????This might be the Cannell connection? Did Ann have a bro. Hugh?
If you need more info I might have some. Thanks for any help. U
P.S. I did look at Ann's will - tells nothing except 10 children.
