I would be more than grateful for any assistance in clarifying issues with the Ballajora Corkills.
I am 95% sure I have the correct ancestor line through Daniel Corkill who immigrated to Australia in 1848. Extract of ships records for Artemisia (1848) shows a single male (Not being with members of family), #10 Corkhill, Daniel, age 21, Blacksmith, native of Isle of Man. Therefore indicated DoB would be @ 1827. Examination of 1841 Census (Maughold) identifies 5 Daniel Corkills; one was Head of Family, but only one with Dob 1827 +/- 5 yrs. That Daniel Corkill is absent from the 1861 Census records, therefore consistent with having left Isle of Man.
The Extract from Isle of Man 1841 Census shows him as a member of the following household,
2 2 9 Ballajorey William CORKILL 47 Farmer Isle of Man
2 2 9 Ballajorey Isabella CORKILL 43 Isle of Man (My research indicates that Isabella Corkill is Isabella Joughin, born 1797 in Rhenab, Kirk Maughold)
2 2 9 Ballajorey Daniel CORKILL 14 Isle of Man
Philip Allen was able to provide a handwritten tree from Constance Radcliffe labelled CORKILL Ballajora (Particle). The tree appears to confirm my research and provides an ancestor line back to Robert Corkill (b.1679 d.1756) m Mary Corkill (d.1744), maiden name unknown. I understand a Particle is a special type of land and Ballajora is a small cluster of farms not far from Maughold church but am unsure if this is the farm of 94 acres referred to in the 1851 Census against William Corkill.
The part I am trying to confirm is an apparent intersection of two branches of the ancestry that begins beyond Robert. My research indicates Robert was s/o William Corkill (b.1650). William is recorded as having a daughter Jane Corkill (b.1673 Maughold, Isle of Man) who married (1690) Edmund Callow (b 1659 d.1732). Edmund & Jane had a son, William Callow (b 1694) who married (1730) Margaret Cowle (b.1695 d. 1734). They had a daughter Margaret Callow (b.1731 d.1772) who married (1748) William Corkill (b.1716 d.1793). They had a son, William Corkill (b.1765 d.1836) who married (1817) Isabel Joughin, being the parents of the William Corkill identified above in the 1841 census.
From Philip’s notes he provided Callow Cardle Veg starts with Edmond Callow, Ballaterson (1659-1732) m Jane Corkill. They did have a son William (c1780-1746) who m not Margaret Cowle in 1730, but Catherine Lace in 1729. Catherine d.1771. There is no Mary or Margaret listed among their children. These are at variance with Edmund Callow and Jane Corkill being the grandparents of the Margaret Callow who married William Corkill.
On a small island like IoM it would not be unusual for the descendants to marry in later generations but I am trying to confirm the above were from the same lineage and not a mixture with another branch of the Ballajora Corkill Maughold family.
