Hi there. I was missing in action for a few years due to family changes etc. However I never stopped looking for my Elhinstone family. My husband and I spent over 10 days searching records regarding the Elphinstone while we were in Douglas. Since then I have discovered that my grandfather Edward Denmark Elphinstone born in Peel 1903 was sold to the Barnardos in 1913 and sent to a farm in Canada. His brothers William and Alfred were also send to Canada as Barnardo boys. Britain's Home Children. When they reached there at age 10 and 6 they were sent to work on farms (not together) It was a rough life for these little guys. I am still looking for more history but may have to go to Straffordshire or Stoke-on-Trent to find out more about my great grandfather James who built the Theatre Royalle and was instrumental in getting the theatre started on the Isle of Man.
I loved the Isle of Man and now that I am 62 I would like to return and perhaps stay forever. If anyone is looking for this information please write to me and I will be glad to pass on what is appropriate. I really hope some of my relatives see this post and will respond. I have lost them yet again. I am trying to do my genealogy and publish a book. During the last 10 years I have been publishing magazines and now I have retired and would like to concentrate on my family's life on the Isle of Man. I have never felt more excited to be in a country than I was on the island. I have travelled the world and the IOM was the best!!! Sure wish I could get some Manx Kippers but apparently they cannot be shipped to Canada any longer. I am now living in Alberta, Canada
