Is there someone who can help me find out about the parents and/or siblings of my maternal great great grandfather, Captain William James Davies? I believe he was born about 1824 in Isle of Man, or else he grew up there. His father's name may have been John (as William called his first son John). Captain Davies was chief officer on the Berhampore bringing Fencible soldiers to Auckland, NZ, arriving 1 June 1849 and remained here and married the daughter of one of the soldiers, Mary Jane Shale. He was also the first mayor of Thames, NZ during the gold rush period, and subsequently the Thames harbourmaster. He died 29 Dec 1882 in Thames.

The Manx connection is mentioned in an early newspaper report about him.
