I am looking at the Quirk families in Ohio: I would appreciate any comments or corrections that anyone may have. Thanks!
On the Curler, July 7, 1827:
John Quirk 25, Jane 22, Jane 1, Margaret 56
Robert Crennal 24 tailor; Mary 21; William 1.
In her emigration section in the Manx Notebook, Frances suggested that Margaret Quirk was John’s widowed mother.
I think John Quirk and Mary Crennell are the children of John Quirk and Margaret Quirk.
On Ancestry.com there is a family tree for Robert Crennell and Mary (by Scrib Kelly), which includes the cemetery record for the Robert Crennell lot, and on that lot is a Margaret Quirk, buried March 4, 1847, age 77 (taken from headstone)
John Quirk married, at Andreas, February 2, 1799, Margaret Quirk. There are a couple of John Quirks died in Andreas just before 1827, so I think Frances’ supposition that Margaret was a widow when she emigrated is correct.
Children:
John Andreas, March 8, 1801 John Quirk/Margaret
Margaret Andreas, November 28, 1802 John Quirk/Margaret Quirk
Mary Andreas, January 1, 1805 John Quirk/Margaret Quirk
Ann, Andreas October 21, 1808 John Quirk/Margaret Quirk
So I think that John and Mary were two Quirk children on the Curler. (I am wondering if the other Quirk children, Margaret and Ann, had also died, which would explain why Margaret emigrated rather than staying on the island with one of her other daughters.)
