I've found Robert Kelly, christened Dec. 1860 in K. Michael wrongly recorded as Robert K Mills in 1861 census, aged 3 mths, living with his Grandmother, Catherine Kelly, nee Quayle.
His mother, Elizabeth is wet nurse to the Rowe family, in charge of Laxey mines.
However I can not find him in 1871 or 1881 census.
He is in Douglas in 1891, a blind basketmaker, with his young family.
He was blinded in a mines accident.
I would love to know where he was in ensuing years. After being blinded he was sent to a 'blind school' in Liverpool to learn the trade of basket-making. There he met, and married Jane McGinn, March 1885, in West Derby.
It is likely he might have been in a residential Blind School in 1881...but I can't find him in the Liverpool Census.
Can anyone offer any help?
This has troubled me for years!!!!
