That's great, Alan, and I'm sure the people currently transcribing wills will be delighted to have the support. It might be an idea to double-check first with Pat Galovich and Jim Smith who have been working their way through the dozens of films which Brian had paid for, held at their local Family History Centre in Canada. Their transcripts are at lawsonsiom.freevar.com/ waiting to go on the FHS website, and you can see how they are transcribing every will not already transcribed in a particular year for either Epis or Arch. They will be able to tell you which years they are already working on. I can put you in touch with Jim if you contact me via that website, above.
If you are not already skilled at reading the writing, it is easier to transcribe from a photocopy than from a digital image, and clearer still to be looking at the will on the film reader. I would make notes on the photocopy of anything blurred or difficult to read while looking at the filmed will on a large screen with the light behind.
See the closest FHC at the 'Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints' (in local phone book). There is a small charge per film to bring it to the local FHC (sometimes from Salt Lake City, if it hasn't been ordered in the country before) and they will usually allow you to order up to about 6 films at a time. They ring you when it arrives and you book a film reader for a time which suits you, and the film is available for a month, or longer for a higher fee. Brian ordered his on permanent loan (in effect, bought them) which is why they are still at his FHC, and Pat rescued them from being sent back to SLC.
