As I have become more interested in the history of people etc now I would like to know more about where babies were born. I assume the ordinary working class mothers would give birth in their own homes, (as seen on TV) I myself was born in a nursing home on the main road through Ballasalla , now pulled down to enlarge the steam train station's car park. OK that was many years ago, but my older sister was born in Douglas. I have a family where the 2 oldest chn were born in German then the third Annie Moore was born in 1859 in D'las, (except for the 1871 census when it says German) then her 5 younger siblings all German again. I tried on Manx notebook but couldn't find a reason. It would be interesting to have a few opinions of why only one baby had a different birthplace.
When were nursing homes, maternity units opened on the IOM ? Thanks KayN
