Since starting family research I have become much more interested in history /traditions etc. Was reading an article in a local (Swedish) newspaper last week of a couple celebrating 60 years of marriage & because the groom was just 18 when he md they had to get a document from the King at that time. Was this the custom in UK /IOM ? Also, as early census ages were rounded to 0 or 5 did everybody know or even bother with right ages. Was the christening & therefore the church the only real document of actual date of birth? Did the 'ordinary' working class people celebrate birthdays with family get togethers.? I've noticed that chr years do not always match the age given at burial. Which would have been the more accurate ?
Thanks K
