in 1881 directory are
Quayle and Usher (George Parsons Quayle and Thomas Frederick Usher), brewers, Castle Rushen Brewery but gone by 1883 - Emma Moore of the Moores of the Abbey (Rushen Abbey) had married a Thomas Usher - the quayle + usher ale was remembered by Archdeacon Kewley in 1923 from his youth
Thus it looks as tho they were a Castletown family - one ropewalk (near Catholic Church) was washed away early 20th C - the other was near the Brewery (+ duckpond part of harbour) - when the railway and Alexandra Road were built, stone archways were made for the rope walkers to pass under so still operational 1870's - however I don't have the name Usher linked to either
