Maybe a relative brought over by Matt, to look after his three children left in the house,after Mary died, he`d have to have a house keeper,being a busy mine captain! his others may have left and got married?
and being her being named Grose, & rearing them,she entered them as her children.Matt could have been away on business during this census? Its all starting to sound like a plot from a bad novel!! lol.
