Cholera was 1832/3 - there was Typhus in 1853 + probably typhoid in 1837 - childbirth was still a major killer for women - in 18th C + early 19th smallpox was the killer especially for young children, though measles etc also killed many - however the main reason for emigration was lack of work - farming by mid 19th C was under competition from cheaper imports made possible by improved transport - it was the tourist market in the late 19th century that saved much of Manx farming as thery had a good market for milk + cheese etc + the all important priddas and herring.
