Hi Carol,
William Kelly was a son my 3XG grandparents William Kelly and Ann nee Quane illegitimate daughter on Capt. John Quane.
William Senior was born about 1796 in Patrick, he was a shoemaker. He married Ann Quane Feb 26 1816 at Patrick the vicar being John Cottier and the marriage witnessed by John Kelly and Rob Oats.
William died 1864 Ann died same year apparently buried Feb 11 aged 69yrs. both resided in ShenValla, Patrick Inscription page 69 #830
They had 13 children that I could find and lived at a home still present today that a friend of mine lives in called ScraVolley. It was given to Ann by Capt. John Quane in his will for as long as she needed it for a small rent. It came with 6 acres of land.
Their children were:
1.Ann Kelly 24/10/1816
2.John Kelly 26/06/1818 He was a stone mason
3.William Kelly junior 14/12/1819 Tailor in Michael St, Peel He married Elleanor Ann Watterson 07/06/1861 in German he died 02/05/1911
4.Thomas Kelly 11/11/1821 probably died before 1837 when a second Thomas appears!
5.Mary Ann Kelly 27/07/1823
6. James Kelly 11/03/1827 ?? mariner
7. Stephen Kelly 06/11/1830 Shoemaker My 2xG Grandfather.
8. Caesar Kelly 07/11/1831 joiner, married Mary Ann Bawden, from the Bawden family who ran Foxdale mines. They lived in Foxdale initially.
9. Evan Kelly 23/09/1832 ? Tailor
10 Maria Kelly 14/12/1834 ?? married Edward Bawden
11. 2nd Thomas Kelly 09/03/1837
12. Jane Kelly 08/06 1839
13. Elizabeth Kelly 19/09/1841 ?? married a Bawden
William had two wives, Elleanor being the 2nd one. Confirmed on Capt. John Quane's Will. It says " William Kelly Tailor, Peel died 1911 aged 92yrs. Known as William the ??????ised at commenced in the lodgings house lines at Ballaquane Rd." The house was then known as Shakespeare house. I don't know who William's first wife was as yet! This would perhaps speak to the age difference between William and Elleanor!
This is another property of friends where we stay each time we are lucky to get back home to the Island, funny!
William and Elleanor's children:
Emily Kelly bn 1864 died at aged 9yrs and was a twin, her sister was Ada Alice. The girls had another sister called Anne Maude Kelly bn about 1881 she also died aged 9yrs
Ada became a Milner according to the 1881 census
Other siblings: Jeanette Jane Kelly bn about 1868
Elleanor Kelly bn about 1870
Laura Kelly bn about 1872
Emily Beatrice Kelly bn about 1875
William Carlton Kelly bn about 1877
Lydia Kate Kelly bn about 1879 died 1953
Henry james Kelly bn about 1884 died 1960
1881 census William junior and Elleanor Kelly lived at 10, Michael St, Peel. He was a Tailor and Draper employing 2 men and 2 boys.
Coincidently there was also a Thomas Kelly at 12, Michael St at the same time who was also a tailor,
perhaps William's brother!
I don't have anything yet on William Kelly Senior's parents/siblings etc. Would love to go back further is anyone can help me there. I am sorry about the format of this, I should at some point get it all down properly but time has not allowed me to do that, hopefully those of you that need to can make some sense of it!
kind regards
Sue
