Hello all,
I posted a few weeks back regarding an Eleanor Crowe. Apologies to start a new thread but I can't now see most of the old thread.
Eleanor Crowe gave birth to my grandmother Marjorie Crowe in 1905 on the Wirral, England, illegitimately. The birth certificate had the fathers name crossed out (Thomas Shields) and we have been trying to trace who Eleanor was for a very long time.
I have since ordered the Christening details which has now arrived and is a sheet of paper with a few rows of baby's Christenings on it. Under Parents name, there are 2 columns one for christian name and one for surname. In the row for Marjorie Crowe, the christian name column says Thomas & Eleanor, but again Thomas is crossed out. In the surname column it says Crowe. So this matches with the birth certificate where Thomas was crossed out. The only difference is that when the entry was made the vicar must have thought he was Thomas Crowe, as only Crowe is stated in the surname column (ie no mention of Shields).
Does anyone have any explanations on why this could be? Do you think Thomas Shields is the father and found out Eleanor had registered him as so and thus then went and asked to be taken off the certificates?
Thank you again
Lisa
