[My transcripts, from Brian Lawson's will index.]
Nicholas had two children Nicholas and Margaret (please see my previous message).
Both of these Nicholas Kinnishes, father and son, appear to have died unexpectedly leaving young children.
This decree summary from Manx Notebook (see link at the top of the screen) appears to be that of Nicholas's son Nicholas:
KENNISH Nicholas, died 25 feb 1784; children john, thos, mary, elinor, margt + joney under age [all under the age of 14]; john + charles kewley half bros decline [to be supervisors of the underage children]; john kneale principle creditor (petn by him as stood bail for nicholas kinnish + wm garrett douglas for £16 - not covered by effects); [Nicholas's] wife jony; 1791 john kennish son of nicholas [the eldest son and heir] reaches age 14 and chooses john fayle kk braddan + john callister kk lonan [to be his supervisors].
John & Charles Kewley, Nicholas's half-brothers, were two of the children of Christian Tear from her 2nd marriage to John Kewley (see my previous message about her).
So John was the eldest son of Nicholas Kinnish and wife Jony, and probably the John Kinnish bapt 21 Feb.1779 Lonan, son of Nicholas Kinnish (previous message), who married Cath Kneal 3 Jan.1805 Lonan, and had son John 24 Nov.1805.
To be absolutely certain you need to check (or have someone check) the land records in the Manx Museum which should show the land transfers from father to eldest son.
There were quite a few Nicholas Kinnishes, mostly in Maughold, and I haven't heard of one being captain of the parish, but it is possible.
See "Post Response" at the top of the screen when looking at this message? This keeps your answer in the same thread.
