Hi, I am finally getting back to you with the information so kindly gathered by a friend and her very enthusiastic daughter, who frequently visits IOM. We have to thank them for obtaining the said marriage record of Robert and Ann. They have gathered a good quantity of information of the Cain Bakers (Edward and Matts) who were trading in close proximity to each other in Douglas, just off the quayside and within a stones throw of the records office!
June 19, 1861 Robert, Prospect Hill - Baker and Ann Kennedy, were married in the Parish of Kirk Braddan. Father of Robert - Matts Cain, Baker: Father of Ann, David Kennedy, Shoemaker. Witnessed by James Kilvy (Killy?) and Elizth Kennedy.
ALSO Marriage of Matthias Cain and Ann Lawson, 16 July, 1826, both of BRADDAN Parish, in the presence of James lawson and Robert Douglals (as spelt on the record).
ALSO 2nd marriage of MATTHIAS CAIN to Catherine Craine on 2 Octr, 1834 by Robt Brown. Witnesses: Thos Tattersall, Robt Craine, Abraham Lowe, Jane Cain and James Corran. Parish of Braddan.
I have many of the Census records and have spent a number of hours making up a family tree on Ancestry.co.uk and following links with other searchers of Cain. It is quite confusing without proof of BDM's etc so if anyone has any contact with Irish Family Tree and Roger Doyle Schoen maybe we could unravel some more ancestors as there seems to be copious information from them...too much.
That's all for now as I need to collate all we talked about last night and wait for Julie's input, stories and photos of the area around Bond Street and the Bakery! Regards Pam
