IOMFHS Journal Feb 2010

Joining places like the Family History Society is like unwrapping presents, as you don't know what's underneath until you remove the last cover. Finding new information is something that excites me and I'd imagine the same goes for others who post onto the bulletin board especially when an answer is returned throwing up new and revealing information about the persons you're researching.

The quarterly IOMFHS journal (Fraueyn as Banglaneyn) this month, has many fascinating facts as mentioned in the above paragraph and Denise Dadson (my relation on the Penrice side) has 5 pages of history surrounding her childhood in the Sulby area and eagerly look forward to the continuation of her story.

Denise and many others contribute some splendid articles and I've added glimpses of other articles below. For instance;
There's over two dozen surnames mentioned with regards the GFS otherwise known as the Girls Friendly Society.
A section on the Soup Dispensary charity, Poor Index (absolutely loads of Kelly's in this part), events and incidents recorded in the papers, Members Interests (4 pages), Can you help section, Presentments 1758, Ballagawne School, Lonan and loads of mentioned surnames.
Articles on Health and social issues including Diseases, probationers at the Liverpool Royal Hospital, 'LISTS' of patients in Fort Street Douglas, Nobles Hospital, family of nurses, Curious newspaper extracts, Dynasty of Doctors, medical expenses in 1785 and photos in the Collectors corner.

The FHS members Journal is brimming with names and being a small island, I'm sure that you'll come across one or two in your own research.

Now then, I'm particularly looking forward to the next meeting on the 19th of February at 7:30pm at Union Mills Methodist Church, as one of my friends (who will probably raise a few interested eyebrows) has indicated that he'll be there, plus he's also hinted that he's thinking of joining up. If you want to know more, then I'd strongly suggest that you pop along to the meeting, if not only for the skeet (news-information).

Persons who aren't able to get to the meeting due to lack of transportation, then please email me if you live in the Douglas/Onchan area, where I'll see if I can assist in some way.
