Robert Cowin marries Margaret Callister 21 April 1740 (6 x gt grandparents). We have the marriage contract which identifies that Robert Cowin is the son of Daniel Cowin of Douglas and that Daniel has a brother Gilbert Cowin of Amagarey, Lonan.

In order to get back the next generation we need to find the parents of Daniel and Gilbert. Gilbert is married to Mary Clucas (who dies in 1737 and her will confirms the marriage). We do not know the marriage date but listed in Manx Notebook is an entry under marriage contracts viz:

Old Lon **** 41 Gilbt Cowin Mary Clucas

When I asked to see this contract at the Manx Museum I was advised that although it was listed in their register it was missing when the documents were deposited. Obviously if we can locate it it would probably give us Gilbert's (and hence Daniel's) parents (8th x Gt).

Can anyone cast any light on the "missing" contracts or where else it might be found.

Equally I would appreciate any information from anyone else researching this line.
