The burial date suggests a birth nearer 1782.

The 1841 and 1851 census gives his occupation as Chief Constable for Castletown area. Added to this manx notebook includes Queen's Messenger in his title. His appointment in 1830, aged 47,gives his name as Thomas but later entries give John and again indicates his birth nearer 1783.

Queen's Messengers were usually ex army so National Archives gives one John Chesterman retiring age 32 from Reading in Berkshire.
