I would really like to find out who are my Corkill family on the Isle of Man. I know from family records that there is one.
Have traced my Corkell family back to Penzance,Cornwall in the early 1800s where they were fishermen, but I cannot get back any further nor find the Corkill who came across from the Isle of Man (when ?) and started the Cornish branch of the family.
This first Corkill in Cornwall could be the father of the Penzance family who I think is John Kalkhill (illiterate, hence spelling) who married in Penzance in 1802. I can find nothing about him in Cornwall prior to the marriage, so maybe he lived previously on the Isle of Man?
So far I have found two John Corkills from the Isle of Man at the right time . One is a John Corkhill b1773, son of Thomas, of Malew. He was a shipbuilder in Liverpool but doesnt appear to have lived in Cornwall. However there are clues which make me think there is a connection of some sort to my family, albeit perhaps not the main one. The other is a John Corkill of Ballagorry-Moar, Maughold, who was in the Royal Navy between 1792 and 1801. This would fit nicely with a marriage date in Penzance of 1802.
There is another, much earlier Corkell mention in my family. In mid 1600s, in Helston (Breage), I know a Corkell married a Roberto Delgardo (or Del Gardo) thought to be a sea captain. How or if this connects to the Penzance family I cannot establish.
Help on any of the above, or any additional ideas, would be very welcome indeed!
