'Barbadoes' was written after some early Radcliffe baptisms, and Constance Radcliffe suggested in one of her articles that people were sometimes called after places where they had spent some time. I assumed Barbados, West Indies.
However I have just seen a Confirmation record in the Andreas parish register where the address is given as Barbadoes Lezayre. [1850: Jane Teare (aged) 17 (daur of) Robert Teare Barbadoes Lezayre.]
Was there somewhere in Lezayre called Barbadoes?
Thanks,
Sue
