Thanks for your reply. I know that my Thomas Cashin born in 1833/4 was born in Patrick and his father of the same name was born in Santon. The son called William was born in 1860, so depending on your friend's age, there is a possibility that this could be him, but William seems to appear in each generation. I'll have to investigate the 1901 Census. I think the Cashin branch is the only one I haven't looked up on there.
